Embracing August: A Time for Renewal and Planning

Lynne Themelaras

Can you believe it's August already? I hope you had a wonderful July. As you may know, our ministry took July as a sabbath month. We didn't take the whole month off (though that would have been great), but we did slow things down to focus on quality time, joy-filled activities, and avoiding unnecessary busyness.

“But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31, NLT).

But now, August is here, and it's time to kick things off again. Like most people, our lives tend to follow an end-of-summer to late-spring routine, with back-to-school planning and events ramping up in the fall and winding down before summer. This has been a regular rhythm of life for many of us.

I like to use August as a time for personal planning. What are my goals? What do I hope to accomplish over the next nine months? It's funny, I haven't been in school for years, but I still think of September to May as my "get it done" time. I encourage you to take this month and begin to intentionally plan your personal growing season.

The beauty of the human experience is that we never fully arrive; there's always more to learn and areas to grow. If we are truly living, we should be growing in different areas of our lives. The more I get to know Jesus and strive to be more like Him, the more I find areas where growth is needed.

"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen" (2 Peter 3:18, NLT).

What will your September to May look like this year? Take some time with the Lord during August and discover the areas you need to grow spiritually. Are there things in your past that need to be buried and left behind? Is there a divine assignment that needs to be awakened? Are there health changes you need to make to have the strength and stamina to finish your race strong?

"We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps" (Proverbs 16:9, NLT).

We've rested in July, and now let's reflect in August. Let's embrace this new season with renewed strength and a clear vision for what lies ahead.
